Written Material

Izzy Thomas's main source of inspiration for her work is written media, whether that be independently published essays on Substack, fashion magazines, zines, graphic novels, didactics in museums and galleries, or books. Thomas mainly looks to fiction novels that surrounds ideas of class, materialism, and feminism, such as: Happy Hour by Marlowe Granados, Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote,  You Too Can Have A Body Like Mine by Alexandra Kleeman, and Poor Things by Alasdair Gray. Recently, Thomas has drawn inspiration from nonfiction such as Yuval Noah Harari's book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, which surveys the history of humankind from the Stone Age up to the 21st century, as well as the book Bad Taste: Or the Politics of Ugliness by Nathalie Olah, that examines the idea of taste and aesthetic preferences through a political lense.

Izzy Thomas believes that while her art can more quickly highlight disparities in the topics she considers than written words can, she still feels that writing is a necessity to ground her pieces with a more guided context or lense.
