Movies, TV, and Video

Izzy Thomas comes from a large family that has always had a fondness for movies and TV. She remembers making movies with her cousins at her grandparents' house, and watching the horror movie her father and his cousins made when he was younger, titled Sleeper, which they spent mutiple years filming and editing. Thomas grew up in her grandma's house where instead of cartoons after school, they sat together watching M*A*S*H*, The Pirates of Penzance, Those Magnificant Men In Their Flying Machines, Moonstruck, and Rocky.  These pieces of media were greatly influential to Thomas' development of personal taste and sense of humor. She reflects on how the encouragement of watching things that weren't necessarily catered to her age group gave her a wider array of realities and perspectives to consider, and  provided her moments outside of school to develop her own critical thinking skills. If her family was not active in conversation, they were watching movies. Movies were a part of the family in a way, due to their permenant residence in the household.

Video essays, TV shows, and movies are always playing in the background as Izzy Thomas makes work. Right now, Thomas has been watching videos from Youtubers like Mina Le and Broey Deschanel who make video essays on philosophical and political takes on a handful of different media such as popular reality TV shows and week-long fashion crazes. She also is often considering the aesthetics and more subtle humor of movies like The Bling Ring and Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet.
